How Much Sierra Leone Citizenship Costs in 2026: The GO-FOR-GOLD Figures Explained

“How much is the Sierra Leone passport?” is the question I get most. The honest answer in October 2026 is that there is no official price list. There are figures from market practice, and I show them here with their status, as I checked them on 27 October 2026.
Why there is no official tariff
The SLID press release of 2 January 2025 announced facilitated naturalisation for qualifying investors and people of Sierra Leonean heritage, but named no amount. The 2006 amendments say only that the applicant pays the prescribed fees. The BRIDGES programme page states that it found no legal instrument with investment routes, rates and guaranteed timelines, so it shows no price and no calculator.
The approximate figures
These come from the BRIDGES cost article and related BRIDGES pages from June to September 2026. BRIDGES marks all of them as approximate.
| Item | Approximate figure | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Heritage route | from about $100,000, non-refundable | not confirmed officially |
| Fast-track route | about $140,000 to $148,000 | not confirmed officially |
| Gold option | from 1 kg of gold (about $148,000), held in a state vault for several years, then returnable | not confirmed officially |
| Each dependant | about $10,000 | not confirmed officially |
| Due diligence | from about $5,000 per family | not confirmed officially |
| State and passport fees | to be confirmed | amounts not published |
The gold option
What makes Sierra Leone unusual is the idea of gold instead of a donation. In the BRIDGES description the gold is not spent but stored and later returned. I could not find the storage period, the custodian, the valuation rules or the return procedure in any official document, so I would not plan a budget around the return of the metal until those terms are in a signed paper.
The family
The figure of about $10,000 per dependant is also from market practice. Under the published law each person needs their own basis, which I explain in the family guide.
What else to budget
- translations and apostilles for civil status records;
- documents proving descent if you use the heritage route;
- professional fees, priced separately by each firm;
- travel, if any step has to be done in person.

The checks before you pay
I ask for five things in writing before any payment: the legal provision for your route, the competent authority, who receives the money and on what account, the list of family members included, and what happens to the money after a refusal. If someone cannot give you these, the price does not matter. BRIDGES works in the same order, and the full checklist is in the Vanuatu comparison.
A note for Russian citizens
BRIDGES reminds Russian citizens that a second citizenship has to be notified to the Russian authorities. The BRIDGES article for Russians covers this.
Questions and answers
Is there an official price for Sierra Leone citizenship?
No official tariff was published by 27 October 2026. The SLID press release of January 2025 gives no amounts, and BRIDGES found no legal instrument with investment thresholds.
What figures does BRIDGES quote?
In June 2026 articles: a contribution from about $100,000 (non-refundable), gold from 1 kg (about $148,000) held in a state vault for several years and then returnable, about $10,000 per dependant and due diligence from about $5,000 per family. All are marked as approximate.
Are there state fees?
Section 9 of the Act as amended in 2006 refers to prescribed fees. Their amounts were not available to me in official sources, and BRIDGES lists state and passport fees as to be confirmed.
When should I pay?
Only after the legal provision, the authority, the recipient of the money and the consequences of a refusal are confirmed in writing.
